Katie Sandford: An Extraordinary Life

Katie was born Kathleen Shannon in Westminster, England in 1905. It's hard to believe that this was a full ten years before the battle of Gallipoli was fought, and four brief years after the federation of Australia. It is hard to imagine a life that has spanned such change, as it began with the era of zeppelins and ended with the era of the spy satellite and the super computer.

She experienced the events of the century as a participant and as an onlooker; two World Wars, a Depression, the Korean and then Vietnam conflict, the steam age becoming the electrical age becoming the nuclear age becoming the information age. She began life at 'No. 18'. She died, aged 101, in April 2006. This is her story.
